Hello again to all! This is my second entry for today. I wanted to show you some photos of our walk around Beijing. We saw some very interesting things. A man was baking sweet potaoes and let us take his picture. We then walked down to a river that was GREEN!! Yikes. There was a nice park across the street.
Our time at "WalMart" has been interesting! It is two stories high. You walk in the bottom level, that is where the food and check out stands are. There are also little "kiosks" or individual stores that are separate from WalMart (like for glasses, photos, Disney etc.) You are not allowed to get to the food from the first story.
You have to walk up a long hallway to go upstairs where there is clothing and household items. There are LOTS of people inside and workers at every isle who are trying to sell you the daily promotions. It is loud and they have LOTS of one item. I suppose because there are lots of people to buy them! There are even two isles downstairs full on Moon Pies. There are four women trying to sell you their brand of moon pies. I know that moon pies are for a celebration but I am unsure of their meaning or when they eat them.
You go down a second ramp from upstairs to the downstairs. There are people down there trying to sell you the fruits and meats even!!! Also, their meat department looks much like Pike Place Market. There are live shrimp jumping around and big fish with eyes! The red meat is just laying in a pile and you put on a glove to pick the one you want, then bag it. You have to have everything weighed by an employee in that area and then they put a price on it.
If you get an item that does not have a price tag, or you forget to get it weighed, they just throw it in a bin and you cannot buy it! There is no price checking!!! It is very different than what they do at our WalMart. You also have to bag items yourself and they only give you a couple bags to do it with!
